Persuasive writing

Hello again my LIT 102 brother and sister.

Have you tried to convince your listeners or readers to believe in an opinion or idea that you may have, then you intend to persuade? Persuasive writing is not new to me I remember when I was at the primary school level, I wrote a persuasive piece on “students should not be beaten for arriving to school” It was a loved piece by my class teacher. However, the acronyms PEEL and PIE were new to me in persuasive writing. PEEL which means Point, Elaborate, Elaborate, and then Link all your thoughts while the acronym PIES spells out Point, Information, Elaborate, and summarize/ restate. Applying these techniques in your writing will help you to structure your paragraphs in a clear and concise sequence.

Persuasive writing allows the writers to express specific reasons (explanations) for their opinion/ point through/ the use of logical arguments, personal experience, convincing words, and sentences that will appeal to the reader's emotions. Including these factors (aspects) in your writing will influence your readers to keep reading and staying engaged as they read, do you know how Mrs. Laz refers to the writers who can pique the reader’s interest from the onset of reading, ‘the hook.’ The hook must be well stated/structured to catch the reader’s attention, yesss man! In Mrs. Laz's voice.  A transparent thesis statement will reduce confusion since the aim of is to convince your readers that your way of thinking is the best. For me what is most crucial/ important in persuasive writing is to persuade your readers to form sentimental relations to your topic.

My students will be encouraged to communicate their ideas clearly and avoid creating confusion in their reader’s minds. Their points will be developed to grab their reader’s attention. My newly learned knowledge will be used as a bedrock to enhance my student’s ability to strongly convince their audience of their stance taken. After learning the fundamentals of persuasive writing they will learn to write their ideas with substantial evidence.

  1. I was quickly reading through your blog hoping to see the piece you wrote back in primary school. I would have liked to have read it to see what techniques you utilized in your younger years to convince the reader. Student’s reasoning can be most interesting.
On another note, the outline you shared on persuasive writing was quite meticulous. I appreciated it because it really helped me to almost relive the experience in class.
As you mentioned persuasive writing in the teaching/learning environment, what will a first lesson look like for you? How will you introduce this style of writing to them, so that they understand it and they don’t mix it up with other styles, for example, narrative or descriptive writing?

  2. Lol, are you serious, that's how many moons ago, in fact, that Language Arts exercise book was not discovered treasure for my mother to keep until this day. I teach little people so we are going to start by trying to convince another student or teacher orally about trying something new like looking at a movie they like or trying a food... they do such by utilizing the techniques taught, then we will move to writing.
